Our Animal Hospital Offers Laser Therapy for Pet Arthritis

Berkeley veterinarian offers pet laser therapy.jpg

Laser therapy is one of our animal hospital’s most cutting-edge treatment options for pets in pain. Until recently, senior pet owners in particular often faced difficult decisions for pets in pain. Sometimes the choice was to weigh the possible dangers and expenses of pet surgery against the heart-breaking possibility of euthanasia. But our Berkeley veterinarian has good news: for many pets (especially senior pets and pets with health problems) laser therapy can give them a new lease on life—with less pain, better function and more energy. Cold laser has been used to alleviate pain from pet arthritis and severe dental problems to skin problems and other painful, inflammatory conditions.

Berkeley Veterinarian: Laser Therapy Helps with Pet Arthritis and More

Most pets enjoy their laser therapy sessions, both for the pain relief and the comforting nature of the therapy. They relax in their room while our Berkeley veterinarian or one of our experienced veterinary technicians gently rubs the laser probe over the affected areas. Most pets feel better after only 4 to 6 sessions lasting anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes.

Several things make cold laser therapy a great alternative for many pets. First of all, unlike pet surgery, laser therapy is entirely non-invasive. There are no drugs or anesthesia needed, making it a safe option for at-risk pets. It is also less expensive than surgery, and you can stay right there with your pet through the entire treatment.

Our Berkeley veterinarian explains that the specific light wavelength used in laser therapy stimulates several internal mechanisms that actually help your pet’s body heal from the inside out. It penetrates deeply into damaged tissues and literally kick starts the metabolism in cells that had all but shut down. It also increases circulation and encourages collagen production to support healthy bone, skin, cartilage and connective tissue regeneration.
