Lance's Care is exceptional. And he is so kind & compassionate & loving to all the animals he cares for. I always know Dr Mattu will make sure my dogs are getting the best care available. He is thorough & knows his business.

You are very gentle and caring and it shows. Your staff is very kind and understanding and professional. Great experience. Doctor Mattu explains everything clearly and gives good advice for older cats like Brimstone. The staff is helping us through some tough times in Brimmy's golden years. They never make me feel hopeless and treat my cat with love and affection. I would recommend their care to anyone.

Thanks to the dedicated attention from Dr. Mattu and the team, Lola's health has improved and she has recovered. I am now the lucky mom of a 15+ year old cat, who is enjoying the quality of life that all animals deserve. She is back to being the playful and loving cat that I have enjoyed for many years.

Everyone at UVH treated Lola with love and consideration. It is obvious that the UVH team is highly skilled, but most importantly, they calm both the patient and the parent. Most of us arrive with a sick animal, and just want to cry for the pain they suffer. I will never forget how my heart is at peace because I have this wonderful team to help me make sure Lola's last years are happy and healthy. I am very happy and most grateful to Dr. Mattu and UVH team, Tasha, Lisa, Tiffany, Cassidy and David. I am also most impressed with the follow up calls I received from Dr. Mattu, Tasha, and Lisa. The team is just EXCEPTIONAL!

What I like most about my recent trip, and all my other trips, is the legitimate concern that is shown for the animal's health and comfort. Everyone always treats Lola with love... and that goes for Lola's family too! We truly appreciate the valuable service and care. Thank you to all the UVH team and Dr. Mattu!

i adopted my cat about 4 years ago when i used to live in berkeley. i moved back home in '06. til this day i still take my kitty to UVH - so yes i drive 30 mins.

Dr. Mattu takes great care of my cat - he's kind & gentle with him. its a small hospital but i feel that the staff are very caring. they are good at keeping me updated by sending me info via mail & email. they offer lots of discounts seasonally, which helps my pocket.

i will continue to use UVH since i have had a terrible experience with another vet in Oakland (i cant quite remember the name but will update my review once i do). my cat responds well to UVH ~ thats all that matters to me =)

I just got back from my first visit to University Veterinary Hospital, and I can assure you that I'm going back! I have a sweet-but-huge pit bull named Oliver. I once brought him to a clinic where they insisted on muzzling him based entirely on his breed despite my insistence that he was completely non-aggressive (you can imagine how baffled they were when he just stood there for his shots and microchipping), and it was generally very upsetting. Dr. Mattu and his staff were kind, understanding, and thoughtful. They answered all of my questions and helped me work out Oliver's care financially, and were generally wonderful. I will definitely be returning.

Extremely happy with University!

I am probably one of the more fearful pet owners out there; scared that someone is going to hurt "my girl", or advance services she does not need, but this has never happened. She has all her shots here and had her spay, no problems; they listened and maintained all my instructions.

After an accident, instead of taking advantage of me in a scary time, they gave her a good once over and sent me out the door with the most minimal treatment. Prepared to pay up, but was relieved and won by the honesty and integrity. The doctor gave us a call the next few days to check up and that made us all feel appreciative and happy; they even remember my girl's name when I go in to pick stuff up without her.

They are a great team and they have a clean and welcoming space with fair cost. We have been clients for about one year and every time we have made an appearance to the vet absolutely everyone there has been kind and helpful.

My 12-year-old kitty is a real mamma's boy who lets me do just about anything to him, but he will not tolerate the same from strangers, so I was quite worried when he got sick last week. I dreaded taking him to the vet and was disappointed when I heard that the nice woman that I had seen last time was no longer working at the facility. The receptionist assured me, however, that Dr. Mattu would take good care of my pet.

Sure enough, the technician came in and kitty put on quite a show. She was too intimidated to even touch him, but told me that Dr. Mattu had a way with animals and would do much better. I had my doubts.

Enter Dr. Mattu. I swear a white light filled the room. I don't know where this man learned his magic, but he was able to listen to my cat's heart and check his teeth with almost no trouble whatsoever. When he actually managed to look inside his ear with his little instrument, I was astonished. Even more noteworthy was the way he did all of this in such a gentle and loving way, never for a moment giving the impression that he felt that I had a bad or difficult kitty. At the end of our visit, I was presented with a typed note from Dr. Mattu with instructions regarding my cat's care and health concerns. It began "Pablo was gracious to let me work with him today. I am very grateful."

The one who is grateful is me. I have had vets who have been kind and competent before, but this experience was truly special.

I brought my oldest cat, Squeeek, to this vet on the advice of a friend. Boy does she have good tastes in vets! They took us in immediately on 3/5 and gave him a shot of antibiotics and benedryl for a skin infection, and then asked us to come back because he needed his teeth cleaned and one needed to be pulled. What can I say, getting old sucks!

So, today was the procedure day, and everything went perfect. The staff is nice, Dr.Mattu was totally sympathetic not only to my child, but to me as well (as were the techs), and they even have their own office cat, George! It wasn't cheap, but then again, nothing ever healthcare-wise is!

I totally recommend this vet! It's also at an easy-to-get-to location, which is nice!

We had been taking our dog to another Berkeley vet for nine years. Recently we had a crisis and when we phoned our regular vet, they declined to help us after making us wait on the phone for over 15 minutes. University Vet took us right away - even though we had never been there for care.

After that, we changed to University Vet. I've seen the other Yelp reviews and what people say about the pricing. University Vet's prices are comparable to other vets.

Lastly, the past month our dog became very ill. Dr. Mattu and his staff have been compassionate, kind, helpful, and responsive. We ended up taking our dog to UC Davis Veterinary Hospital for additional tests. UC Davis vets told us that Dr. Mattu's records were excellent - clear, well-organized, and helpful.

Dr. Mattu and his staff did an exceptional job taking care of our dog, and they were always compassionate, friendly, and helpful with us. They always knew who we were and who are dog was when we called. We highly recommend them and will use University Veterinary Hospital when we get another dog in the future.

Dear Dr. Mattu,

This review is way way overdue, so please forgive me for not writing sooner. Thank you on behalf of my Dog Mrss. J. Brown M.D WHO ALSO LOVES YOU TO DEATH. Thank you on behalf of my previous dog Bucky Buckaroo (resting in peace). Thank you for being such a kind, curtious and caring doctor to my pets and a wonderful and helpful person to me.

I will never forget how kind you were to my dog and the day you put Bucky down I saw tears in your eyes cause you are simply the most honorable vet I've ever been too. My dog is totally in love with you and I keep on telling her "stop it girl, he's married!!!!!!!!" I even told her that "his wife has a gun" but, she still wont stop. Oh well that's what you get for giving her all the attention in the world.

Thank you for hiring all these wonderful and amazing people like Lisa,(the incredible and amazing Lisa), Tasha, David, Eric etc....etc.... they are all so amazing.

Thank you for all the wonderful dental work you've given my dog, her teeth look great, she's already lining up her weekend date with a neighbor dog.Too bad I can't get my dental work at your clinic it sure would be cheaper than half the human dentists out there.

Last but not least, thank you for being so generous with your time whenever I come in with my dog or whenever I send you my friends. Every single one of them leaves you office incredibly impressed with your knowledge and service.

Dr Mattu, I dread the day you might hit the Jackpot and then you'll probably buy a house on the hill in Bombay and I really don't know where will I take my dog to get her teeth cleaned for the next boyfriend. Oh my god, what will I do when she's an old fart? where will I get her botox??????????????????

Thank you soooooooooooooooooooo much you are an ANGEL

Dr. Mattu is one of the most compassionate veterinarians I have come across in my many, many years of taking cats and dogs in for veterinary care, both here and in Manhattan. During the time he is examining your pet, he makes you feel like your pet is the only one in the world. He is thorough, perceptive, and demonstrates a sixth sense about what may be going on with your pet. Compassion and technical expertise make for an awesome veterinary experience. I highly recommend Dr. Mattu and his equally committed staff.

I highly recommend Dr. Matu at University Veterinary Hospital. He is very experienced - not one of the "new graduate" types, but absolutely current with an amazing ability to diagnose even the most complicated situations. I trust him with our cat and dog "family members" in the same way I trust my own doctors. He is open to hear what we say and is a good listener who combines what we tell him with his clinical observations and knowledge.

I've seen many Vets and vet facilities as we've lived around the state and country. Some more high tech, some that specialize in surgery or other things, and it sometimes feels like when you go there every problem looks like a "nail" and whatever their specialty - the right "hammer". Not so at University Veterinary Hospital. They have the emergency diagnostic tools to get answers "right now" when time really counts, but this is truly a Family Practice, so your bill isn't loaded with the high overhead costs of, for example, a surgical specialty Veterinary Practice. I've never said vet bills were cheap, but my experiences at University Veterinary Hospital have been open, honest, and I've always felt comfortable with their explanation of what things will cost BEFORE they were performed. I've also felt comfortable being able to omit items or delay recommended procedures.

Lastly, I can't be more pleased with the compassion and understanding I feel when my pets are in need of help at UVH. Dr. Matu and the entire staff are animal lovers who understand the bonds we all have with our pets. They understand and feel our pain, and share the weight of our toughest decisions, while still reveling in the joys only animal lovers can share.

I began volunteering at University Vet in November of 2007 while I was still in college. The people there impressed me so much that I joined the staff and only left after I moved out of state. The technicians there are amazing. They love the animals that they work with and try to provide the best care possible, as evidenced by all the clinic cats that have passed through the hospital through the years.

Dr. Mattu also demonstrates great care to his clients and patients. He always recommends the best care and preventative measures to minimize health issues for the animals. Dr. Mattu truly cares about the satisfaction of his clients. Problems and complaints are always brought up during staff meetings, and the whole UVH staff have constantly thought of new ways to best serve their clients.

I highly recommend people who are looking for good vet care to come to this clinic. Not only are the prices here the best in the area, the people here really do care. I know many people feel that the clinic recommends too much, but everything recommended does serve a purpose. The plans that the technicians present are formatted to contain as much preventative care as your own doctor would provide you. I would also encourage clients to ask technicians about the purpose of each item. Finally, even on a very limited budget, the doctor and staff are willing to work with the client.

Dr. Mattu has an incomprable bedside manner. He helped us get through a tough time with our little friend, Maggie, a 15 year old Brussels Griffon with a heart problem. He made us feel like our doggie was his most important patient and it was clear to us that we were in the right place and making the right decision for our friend. God Bless you Dr. Mattu and staff.
